25 Resources to Learn Generative Engine Optimization in 2025
Learn how to rank on ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google AI Overviews, with the tools, techniques, and strategies these resources offer.
In May, Class Central’s second-highest source of traffic was ChatGPT. We were so busy being surprised, we didn’t get into the “whys” and “hows” (why question the good things?).
Three months ago, this traffic seemed effortless, a by-product of publishing online education content for over a decade. Now it’s a brand visibility strategy.
Brands are trying to show up on ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, and Gemini by crafting LLM-friendly content, also known as generative engine optimization (GEO). And it works — it leads to 40% more visibility.
This guide isn’t a regular Best Courses Guide, because GEO is the newest and fastest-moving marketing skill (even scammers have joined in).
I’ve picked 25 resources (courses, YouTube channels, blogs, manuals, podcasts, etc) that will help you understand how it works and how you can optimize it for your brand. Before that, I’ll break it down — what it is, how it processes your questions, and will it replace SEO?
Head to:

What is Generative Engine Optimization?
GEO is a content crafting strategy that will make your business show up on AI platforms like ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Gemini, and more. To simplify: it means optimizing your content so that Large Language Models (LLMs) link to it when you ask them a question, and they answer.
To simplify even more: it’s a way for AI platform users to find your business on ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, etc.
People prefer LLMs to search engines for understanding complex concepts, summarizing information, brainstorming, and seeking detailed answers — should I start a keto diet? How to power dress? How to break up nicely?
LLMs deliver because they’re trained to study data from websites, social media, research studies, books, and other sources. If your website/blog/platform aligns with the LLMs’ search and retrieval process, congratulations, you would make it to its answer!
“A.I. has essentially replaced Google for me for basic questions: What setting do I put this toaster oven on to make a turkey melt? How do I stop weeds from growing on my patio? I’ll upload a photo of a room in my house and say, “Give this room a glow-up, tell me what furniture to buy and how to arrange it, and generate the ‘after’ picture.” – New York Times Interview
How do Generative Engines Work?
To understand why you need to learn GEO, let’s look at how LLMs work when you ask them a query.
LLMs are trained to understand language patterns, structures, and word relationships. When you ask a query, they break your question into words, convert them to numbers for meaning, and check connections. Then, based on their training, they make sense of the context and offer each response word.
What’s the Difference Between GEO and SEO?
Ranking on Google doesn’t equate to showing up on ChatGPT or other LLMs.
But the principles of GEO and SEO are the same — offering clear, structured, and engaging content. Both require EEAT (experience, expertise, authoritativeness, trustworthiness) and are based on user intent.
The difference comes down to how they operate.
Aspect | SEO (Search Engine Optimization) | GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) |
Platforms | Search engines (Google, Bing, Yahoo) that offer links to answers | AI platforms (ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity) that offer answers |
Content | Keyword-focused content with strategic links and meta tags | Conversational, factual, authoritative content that AI can easily understand |
Success Metrics | Rankings, click-through rates, website traffic, and page views | Citation frequency, mentions in AI responses, and inclusion in generated answers |
Goals | Get users to click your website link from search results | Become part of the AI’s response and let users discover you |
Example | A blog post titled “Top 10 Car Maintenance Tips” ranks #1 on Google for “car maintenance.” | For a query about car maintenance, an AI tool synthesizes information from your blog post and cites your website as the source |
Is GEO Replacing SEO?
No, don’t worry, your SEO knowledge, which would’ve taken years to build, is not going to waste.
But SEO can, and should be supplemented with GEO to get your brand more eyes and more trust. Brands in the top 25% of search engines receive around 170 AI-generated citations (on average).
The truth is, people are hanging out on LLMs more, but they haven’t left search engines. They still visit them for facts, addresses, and demographic details. But Gartner also predicted that traffic from search engines to sites will drop next year. This proves that the use of AI platforms is rising, but it hasn’t taken over search engines yet, making both SEO and GEO relevant today.
How to Do Generative Engine Optimization? Learn from 25 GEO Resources
As an ex-marketer who still uses marketing tools as a writer, SEO feels like muscle memory. Earlier this month, to update my SEO skills for 2025, I signed up for Noble Desktop’s SEO Bootcamp.
The instructor introduced me to GEO — the marketing skill of 2025. I believe that GEO and SEO will help companies write content the way it should be written, making this an exciting experiment for your business.
In this guide, you’ll notice two things:
Blogs > courses: GEO is a new topic still taking shape, so fewer courses teach it. But many blogs offer detailed guides and blog posts that explore parts of it. And let’s face it, they will be a quicker way to navigate it.
Focus on content and technical skills: GEO requires you to create conversational, clear, and semantic keyword-filled content. But these resources also teach you the technical aspects — using brand visibility tools to track AI citations, adding schema markups, and more.
